Nurse Manager - Assisted Living - Part Time

Job Title:  Nurse Manager

Purpose:  Overall responsibility of the nursing care and services provided to the residents. Along with overseeing all staff.

Accountability:  Director

Job Summary:  The Nurse Manager has the overall responsibility of all the staff in our community.  Ensuring that staff is providing care and services to the residents of the program, according to their service plan and state regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Follow established standards of nursing practice and implement program policies and procedures.
  • Communicate with residents, families and health care professionals.
  • Promote the program to maintain census.
  • Provide training/delegation and ongoing monitoring to universal workers/personal care attendants for health care professional directed care and/or medication administration.
  • Supervise and evaluate all universal workers/personal care attendants; initiate and corrective action as necessary.
  • Complete resident assessments and service plans as required by regulation.
  • Identify tenant problems and emergency situations; respond as situation dictates.
  • Identifies safety hazards and takes appropriate actions to correct them.
  • Assist with interviewing and hiring of universal workers/personal care attendants.
  • Scheduling work schedules for universal workers/personal care attendants.
  • Supervise and assist with evaluation process of universal workers/personal care attendants.
  • Ensure program-administered medications are being completed as required by regulations and appropriate delegation is present.
  • Takes calls 24-hours a day and provide consultation to universal workers/personal care attendants in emergency situations.
  • Assist with organizing, planning and leading staff meetings.
  • Comply with all regulations as they apply to the assisted living.
  • Other duties as assigned by the director.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Able to lift between 40-50 pounds; up to 40 inches.
  • Able to be on your feet for extended periods of time.

  • Extended hours may be required
  • Very frequent work interruptions

Supervisory Responsibility:  Assists in the management of several full time and part time employees.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Required Education and/or Training:

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited RN program with a current license in the State of Iowa or compact license. 

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with the care of the elderly and confused residents.
